[MANUSCRIT]. Recueil de plusieurs choses utiles interessantes, et curieuses concernant : The Republic of Geneva.
Genève, 1771. In-8, green calf, mosaic centerfold (modern binding). Very interesting manuscript relating to Geneva, giving several lists of names of people who had a role in this city and the surrounding area in the 18th century, or earlier. It lists bishops, state councillors, secretaries of justice, treasurers, procurators, judges, pastors (1536-1771), commanders (1696-1771) and others. It also contains important information on daily life at the time, such as the "price of wheat & sale of wine" (1536-1770), the "tariff of commodity tolls", etc.
Perfectly legible, ruled manuscript in brown ink, comprising 168 pages and a table. COPY WITH THE ARMS OF THE CITY OF GENEVA.
This copy appears to belong to Édouard Chapuisat (1874-1955), a Genevan lawyer and Hellenist, General Secretary of the Administrative Council of the City of Geneva from 1900 to 1913, member of the Grand Council from 1913, director of the Journal de Genève from 1918. He is quoted in the 1931 issue of Genova.
Bottom of first title leaf cut out and reinforced. Some foxing and dampening. Spine slightly faded.
