MATISSE Henri (1889-1954) Portrait of André Rouveyre Offset plate from Hommage n°2 (Monaco, 1944). Sight: 29 x 21 cm André Rouveyre (1879-1962) was a French writer and illustrator. He met Matisse during their studies at the Beaux-Arts de Paris in Gustave Moreau's studio. They became friends and maintained an epistolary relationship of around 1,200 letters. They produced a number of works together, including illustrated books (Repli, Apollinaire...), and Matisse painted his friend's portrait on several occasions.
