PICASSO Pablo (1881-1973) Dove and Owl. Oil pastel drawing, dated 8.4.60, dedicated to Madame Mearelli and adorning the flyleaf of the book "La Guerre et la Paix" (Paris, éditions Cercle d'Art, 1954; numerous illustrations in color and black & white, including two fold-out free plates in black & white). 36.5 x 26 cm (spotting) Provenance: Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Mearelli (industrialist and patron), then by descent. Enclosed is an invitation from the Alpes-Maritimes Federation of the French Communist Party to a lively evening auction of original works by Pablo Picasso and Jean Lurçat in Saint Paul de Vence on September 3, 1965. The invitation is adorned with a reproduction of Pablo Picasso's "Painter at work with bearded model and a spectator seated cross-legged" 1963). We would like to thank the Comité Picasso for kindly confirming the authenticity of this work.
