LAHAYE François E. (1878-1949) - Lot 48
LAHAYE François E. (1878-1949) Columns at dusk. Gouache watercolor. Signed lower left. (foxing, frame damaged) View: 37 x 54 cm François Étienne Lahaye was a French painter and watercolorist whose work lies at the crossroads of symbolism and decorative landscape. Attracted by light and wide open spaces, he traveled to regions as varied as Brittany, Corsica and Egypt, exploring natural and ancient motifs with a vibrant palette and a keen sense of drawing. His works, often executed in gouache or tempera rather than oil, reflect an elegant, slightly idealized atmosphere, in which nature seems to melt into an almost decorative aesthetic.
