BEN ABDELLAH Jellal (1921-2017) - Lot 53
BEN ABDELLAH Jellal (1921-2017) Three apples. Gouache. Signed lower right. 9 x 11 cm Jellal Ben Abdallah was a major Tunisian painter whose work draws deeply on the Mediterranean atmosphere of his native Sidi Bou Saïd and the Eastern tradition of miniature painting. His compositions, characterized by fine drawing, delicate colors and hieratic stylization, bring to life genre scenes, female figures in traditional costumes and everyday Tunisian life with modest elegance. Both heir and innovator, he helped forge a Tunisian modernism, while remaining faithful to a refined, meditative aesthetic.
