(fold marks) Frame: 167 x 87 cm Bibliography: Catalogue of the exhibition "Jean Bertholle - La matière et l'esprit" at the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Dijon (2011). Page 33. Jean Bertholle is a French painter, engraver and decorator, an important figure in the Second School of Paris. Trained at the École des Arts Décoratifs, he developed a body of work that was initially figurative, before moving towards a lyrical and spiritual abstraction, nourished by the search for balance between formal rigor and pictorial emotion. His work, marked by the depth of his tones and the strength of his gestures, reflects a quest for inner light that gives his compositions a poetic and meditative dimension.
