GRANDIDIER René (1904-1972) Female nude with turban. Oil on canvas, signed lower right. (craquelures) 81 x 100 cm René Grandidier was a versatile artist - painter, watercolorist, engraver and glass painter - whose work was inspired by Post-Impressionism, Expressionism and Fauvism. His career has taken him from his native Amiens to Toulouse, then to Tahiti, where he taught and painted luminous landscapes of the South Seas. His canvases, characterized by vivid colors, sharp contours and striking light, bear witness to his artistic "instinct" and his fascination for southern sites set ablaze by the sun.
