Jean Volang was a French painter and illustrator, trained in the classical techniques of drawing and painting. He particularly distinguished himself in the art of portraiture, successfully combining academic rigor and psychological sensitivity in his depictions. His works, produced for both official commissions and private portraits, highlight the personality and expression of his models through a subtle mastery of light and color. With this work, Volang establishes himself as a major French portrait artist of the XXᵉ century.
