Jean Pierre Alaux was a French painter, engraver and sculptor, descended from a long line of artists, who trained at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts de Paris in the studio of Jean Dupas. His painting blends symbolist, dreamlike and figurative elements, exploring metaphysical themes such as life, death, time and beauty through figures, architecture and still lifes. Named "Peintre officiel de la Marine" in 1975, then "Peintre de l'Air et de l'Espace" in 1993, Alaux has enjoyed a rich career, recognized by institutions and present in several public collections.
