BERET Abangwa (1968) - Lot 112
BERET Abangwa (1968) Parrots resting on a river, 2024. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated lower right. 79 x 125 cm Abangwa Babucwe (known as "Béret", born 1968 in the Democratic Republic of Congo) is a self-taught painter who draws his inspiration from the forests of South Kivu, where he grew up, and transposes onto canvas the vitality of Congolese nature, populated by animals, lush vegetation and intense light. His work, often compared to that of Henri Rousseau, blends an assumed naiveté with a chromatic richness that reflects both wonder and ecological commitment. Through his paintings, Béret calls for the preservation of forests and wild animals, making visible the beauty and fragility of the natural world.
