Pol Chambost trained in sculpture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. After the Second World War, he set up his workshop in Ivry-sur-Seine and turned his production towards highly modern utilitarian and decorative ceramics. His work is characterized by deliberately modeled, often asymmetrical shapes, and by the use of satin-finish glazes in bold hues, characteristic of the taste of the 1950s. Working with designers and decorators, Pol Chambost played a key role in the recognition of ceramics as a major discipline in post-war French design.
