Agostino Carracci, active at the end of the XVIᵉ century, is one of the most important engravers of the Bolognese school founded with his cousins Annibale and Lodovico. A master of the burin, he played a major role in the dissemination of Italian painting thanks to a vast corpus of prints after the great artists of his time. His engraved work is distinguished by remarkable precision, as evidenced by the Portrait of Titian (1587), which has become one of his best-known prints. With this work, Agostino asserts not only his technical skill, but also his essential role in the transmission of Renaissance artistic models.
