GIOVANNINI Giacomo Maria (1667-1717) after RENI Guido (1575- - Lot 6
GIOVANNINI Giacomo Maria (1667-1717) after RENI Guido (1575-1642) Saint Benedict receiving gifts from peasants. Engraved plate, based on Guido Reni's fresco of the Saint Benedict cycle in the San Michele in Bosco cloister in Bologna. (small holes, stains, tears, folds). Bowl: 55.5 x 37.5 cm (frame: 64 x 47.5 cm) Guido Reni, trained at the Accademia degli Incamminati in Bologna, marked the XVIIᵉ century with luminous, elegant painting, favoring idealized forms and a subtle palette. His legacy was disseminated by Giacomo Maria Giovannini, an engraver and painter from Bologna, who notably reproduced Reni's cycle of Saint Benedict at the San Michele in Bosco cloister, giving a wider public access to these compositions and reinforcing the Baroque master's posterity.
