18th-19th century school - After MURILLO Bartolomé Esteban ( - Lot 42
18th-19th century school - After MURILLO Bartolomé Esteban (1618-1682) Mother and child. Oil on canvas. Important gilded stuccoed wood frame. (cracks, missing parts and humidity) 168 x 115 cm (frame: 211 x 163 cm) Provenance: Hôtel de la Reine in Nancy, place Stanislas. Note: Built between 1751 and 1755 as part of the vast Place Stanislas project, the Alliot Pavilion was conceived as a ceremonial building to house Stanislas Leszczynski's intendancy. It quickly established itself as an administrative and symbolic center, first housing the intendance offices, then, at the end of the XVIIIᵉ century, the services of the departmental administration. During the Revolution and at the beginning of the XIXᵉ century, it maintained its institutional function and hosted the prefecture, consolidating its strategic role in the city. Richly decorated, its apartments and salons then preserved collections of furniture, paintings and objets d'art, testifying to the refinement of ornamentation and the representation of power. In 1814, Emperor Alexander I of Russia briefly stayed in the building, marking its protocol importance. From the 1820s onwards, once the public authorities had left, the pavilion passed into private ownership, belonging to the Crevoisier de Vomécourt family. At the same time, a music school was established, continuing the building's cultural and artistic tradition. According to the municipal archives, this musical activity continued into the early 1830s, illustrating the building's transformation towards civil and cultural uses.
