A major figure of the Barbizon school, renowned for his realistic and poetic landscapes, a pupil of Jean Baptiste-Camille Corot and a friend of Théodore Rousseau, Narcisse Díaz de la Peña developed a style that captured the effects of light and the atmospheres of nature with lyrical sensitivity. Famous for his galant and orientalist scenes combining sensuality and refinement. His compositions feature female figures bathed in soft, colorful light, combining academic tradition with orientalist fantasy.
