ISENBART Emile (1846-1921) - Lot 60
ISENBART Emile (1846-1921) Grazing. Oil on canvas. Signed lower left. (craquelures and small chips, one restoration) 65 x 48 cm (frame: 78 x 62 cm) A native of Besançon, Émile Isenbart is deeply attached to the landscapes of Franche Comté. A student of Antonin Fanart, his style draws on the realist tradition of the XIXᵉ century while opening up to the influence of the Barbizon school and the Impressionists. He is particularly renowned for the finesse of his views of rivers, peat bogs or hills, especially in the Jura massif. Awarded a bronze medal at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1900 and made a knight of the Légion d'honneur in 1897, he left an indelible mark on the Comtois artistic landscape.
