Note: Gian Battista Gatti, active in Rome in the XIXᵉ century, is renowned for the sophistication of his marquetry and virtuoso use of hard stones. Inspired by Italian Renaissance and Baroque cabinets, his workshop perpetuated a refined furniture d'apparat, destined for grand residences and enlightened collectors. His works are distinguished by their meticulously inlaid panels, chiselled bronzes and symbolic iconography combining allegorical figures, animals and divinities. Representative of the revival of interest in Roman cabinets during the Seicento, these pieces remain rare on the market and highly sought-after for their quality of execution and spectacular presence.
