LEGER Fernand (1881-1955) - Lot 22
LEGER Fernand (1881-1955) Drawing for Woman in Red and Green. Lithograph. Signature and dry stamp of the Musée de Biot lower right. Numbered in pencil 215/250. (glass missing, sheet not framed) View: 70 x 50.5 cm (frame: 80 x 71 cm) Note: This lithograph reproduces a study for La Femme en rouge et vert, a composition created in 1913 at a time when Fernand Léger was developing his theory of "contrasting forms", one of Cubism's major contributions to the history of modern art. Distinguishing himself from Picasso and Braque through a more dynamic approach to color and volume, the artist asserted a plastic language that would exert a lasting influence on the twentieth-century avant-garde. The stamp of the Musée National Fernand Léger in Biot is a reminder of the artist's special attachment to the Côte d'Azur, where an essential part of his work is preserved today.
