CHAGALL Marc (1887-1985) - Bible. - Lot 34
CHAGALL Marc (1887-1985) - Bible. Paris, Edition de la Revue Verve, 1956. Double issue of the revue Verve volume VIII (n°33 and 34). (binding worn and slightly marked). Note: Published in 1956 by Tériade in the prestigious revue Verve, this double issue is devoted to one of Marc Chagall's major projects: the illustration of the Bible, undertaken as early as 1930 at the request of Ambroise Vollard. Considered one of the most important illustrated books of the twentieth century, this work brings together numerous lithographs by the artist, and bears witness to the central place occupied by biblical themes in his work. A few years later, this research led to the Biblical Message cycle, now housed at the Musée National Marc Chagall in Nice.
