CHAGALL Marc (1887-1985) - Drawings for the Bible. - Lot 35
CHAGALL Marc (1887-1985) - Drawings for the Bible. Paris, Edition de la Revue Verve, 1960. Double issue of Verve volume X (n°37 and 38). (binding slightly worn). Note: Published in 1960 by Tériade in the magazine Verve, this double issue is devoted to Marc Chagall's preparatory drawings for his biblical cycle. More than just a collection of illustrations, the work allows us to follow the development of a project that occupied the artist for several decades, and ranks among the major achievements of 20th-century illustrated books. It is also a precious testimony to the place of drawing in Chagall's creative process.
