LEBASQUE Henri (1865-1937), attributed to Gorges du Loup. Watercolor. Signed and located lower center. Countersigned on the back and dated 1906. (foxing, curled leaf, adhesives) 22.8 x 27.4 cm Note: Dated 1906, this watercolor is contemporary with a pivotal period in Henri Lebasque's career, when he was sensitive to the color research carried out by Matisse and the Fauvist artists. Located in the heart of the Nice hinterland, the Gorges du Loup were one of the landscapes that attracted many painters to the Côte d'Azur in the early 20th century. This work testifies to the artist's interest in unspoiled nature, whose light and relief were fuelling the renewal of landscape painting at the time.
