FRUGES Henry (1879-1974) - Lot 47
FRUGES Henry (1879-1974) Buées dorées, 1945. Watercolor on paper. Signed, titled and dated lower right. (paper slightly curled, some foxing, frame worn) View: 23.5 x 34 cm (frame: 54 x 64 cm) Note: Industrialist, collector and patron of the arts, Henry Frugès is best known for commissioning Le Corbusier to build the experimental city of Pessac, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Alongside this activity, he developed a personal body of work in which landscape and variations in light occupy a central place. Dated 1945, Buées dorées illustrates the sensitive research into atmospheric effects that characterizes much of his work.
