MARQUET Albert (1875-1947) - Lot 50
MARQUET Albert (1875-1947) Offshore at Deauville. Ink on paper. Monogrammed lower right. 12 x 19.5 cm (frame: 33 x 37 cm) Provenance announced by the vendor: Massol sale at Drouot, 1997. Note: An early companion of the Fauves alongside Matisse, Albert Marquet developed a more measured approach, focusing on the observation of light and atmosphere. Seascapes play a central role in his work, from the Mediterranean to the Normandy coast. In Deauville, where he repeatedly depicted the coastline and port activities, the artist found a subject particularly conducive to his research into space, the horizon and variations in the sky and sea.
