Note: Painter, engraver and intellectual, Mino Maccari occupies a singular place in twentieth-century Italian art. Founder of the magazine Il Selvaggio and winner of the Grand Prix for engraving at the Venice Biennale in 1963, he developed a personal body of work now represented in the collections of the Uffizi in Florence and the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome. His expressive, synthetic language is among the most recognizable of Italian modernism.
