MELANI Salvatore (1902-1934) after. - Lot 172
MELANI Salvatore (1902-1934) after. Hoplite. Green patina bronze proof. Signed. On a red veined marble base. 90 x 22 x 37 cm (with base) Note: A native of Florence, Salvatore Melani belongs to the generation of Italian sculptors who contributed to the influence of the decorative arts in the first third of the 20th century. His works, regularly published in bronze, frequently draw their inspiration from Antiquity, history and the great heroic figures. The representation of the hoplite, the emblematic soldier of ancient Greece, is part of the taste for classical models that left a lasting mark on European sculpture between the wars.
