KINGELEZ Bodys Isek (1948-2015) Getou stop, 1998. Assemblage of cardboard, paper and plastic. Signed, titled, dated and located on a label under the base. 13.5 x 16 x 18.5 cm Note: A major figure in contemporary African art, Bodys Isek Kingelez gained international recognition following his participation in the seminal exhibition Les Magiciens de la Terre in 1989. His works are now part of the collections of the Centre Pompidou, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate Modern in London. Through his assemblages of cardboard, paper and recycled materials, the artist imagines utopian, futuristic cities inspired by Kinshasa, proposing an optimistic vision of urban and technological development in Africa.
