Note: Finnish-American architect and designer Eero Saarinen (1910-1961) is one of the great figures of post-war international design. Winner of numerous architectural awards, he was notably responsible for the TWA Terminal at New York's JFK airport and the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. Introduced by Knoll in 1957, the Pedestal series, of which the Tulip table is the most famous model, reflects his desire to replace the traditional four legs with a single central support. Preserved in the collections of New York's Museum of Modern Art and major international design museums, the Tulip Table is today considered one of the icons of twentieth-century design.
