They derive their name from the presence of the character shou (longevity), associated with a rich repertoire of auspicious symbols such as clouds, bats, peaches of immortality, or emblems of good fortune. Highly prized at the imperial court during the reign of Guangxu (1875–1908), these sets were often intended for birthday celebrations and major family occasions. The yellow background—a color traditionally associated with imperial authority—further enhances the prestige of this piece.
