[ASIA] CHINA, Republican Period - Lot 12
[ASIA] CHINA, Republican Period Cloisonné enamel vase, bottle-shaped, mounted on a high foot; the circular body is topped by a long neck ending in a bulbous shape, decorated with lotus scrolls on a yellow background. A "老天利制" (Lao Tian Li Zhi) stamp mark on the base. (chips, warping, small chips). Height: 29 cm (with base: 31.3 cm) Note: Cloisonné enamels, known in China as jingtailan, are among the most iconic products of Chinese decorative arts. Created using fine metal partitions to delineate the various decorative motifs, this technique underwent significant development during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The lotus motif, a symbol of purity and spiritual elevation in the Buddhist tradition, is among the most popular designs. Set here against a yellow background—a color traditionally associated with imperial power—it illustrates the Chinese workshops’ taste for richly ornamented compositions from the late imperial era and the early Republic.
