Note: Elisabetta Marchioni (c. 1665–after 1714) was one of the few female painters active in Baroque Venice. Specializing in still lifes of flowers and fruit, she developed a decorative style appreciated by Venetian collectors of the late 17th century. Her compositions reflect the rise of the still life as an independent genre in Italian painting, alongside artists such as Bartolomeo Bimbi and Abraham Brueghel. Baskets of flowers are among the most characteristic subjects of this decorative tradition, which was particularly sought after in European aristocratic interiors.
