CONINCK, David de (1643/5–c. 1699), in the style of - Lot 91
CONINCK, David de (1643/5–c. 1699), in the style of Dogs and Game. Oil on canvas. 125 x 173 cm (crackling, minor imperfections; canvas not visible on the reverse due to the presence of backing panels) Note: David de Coninck (c. 1643–1699) ranks among the leading Flemish specialists in hunting scenes, dogs, and game from the second half of the 17th century. Trained in the circle of Pieter Boel and active in Antwerp, Paris, Rome, and Vienna, he contributed to the spread of the great Flemish animal painting tradition initiated by Frans Snyders and Jan Fyt. His compositions, often unsigned, have frequently been compared to those of his contemporaries due to the similarity of their subject matter and models. Large, lively hunting scenes featuring dogs and game trophies are now among the most sought-after works of this Flemish school, whose output was then influential throughout Europe. Note 2: A similar dog can be seen in one of the artist’s works held at the National Gallery (Reference: NG1903)
