BRUNEL de NEUVILLE Alfred (1852–1941) - Lot 93
BRUNEL de NEUVILLE Alfred (1852–1941) Still Life with Lobster. Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. (restorations, craquelure, small losses) 54 x 65 cm (frame: 79 x 90 cm) Note: Alfred Arthur Brunel de Neuville (1852–1941) was one of the most highly regarded French animal painters of the late 19th century. A regular exhibitor at the Salon des Artistes Français beginning in 1879, he gained particular renown for his depictions of cats, which are now sought after by collectors. His body of work also includes still lifes that demonstrate the same attention to rendering textures and materials. His compositions featuring seafood follow the tradition of French still lifes inherited from the 18th-century masters.
