DUMAIGE Henri-Étienne (1830–1888) - Lot 114
DUMAIGE Henri-Étienne (1830–1888) After the Battle, Grenadier of 1792. Bronze cast with a brown patina. Signed on the base and titled on a cartouche. Height including base: 66 cm Note: Henri-Étienne Dumaige (1830–1888), a student of Jean-Jacques Feuchère at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, exhibited regularly at the Salon beginning in 1863, where he received several awards. A specialist in historical and allegorical sculpture, he completed numerous public commissions as well as models cast in bronze by the major Parisian foundries. With *After the Battle, Grenadier of 1792*, the artist aligns himself with the 19th-century taste for heroic episodes of the French Revolution and national military figures. Sculptures inspired by the revolutionary campaigns are among the most characteristic examples of patriotic statuary under the Third Republic.
