Note: Alexandre Falguière (1831–1900) ranks among the most important French sculptors of the second half of the 19th century. Winner of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1859, a member of the Institut de France, and a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he received numerous official commissions and participated in major World’s Fairs. His work *La Source*, inspired by the classical ideal, is part of the academic tradition celebrating feminine beauty and the purity of form. Preserved in several public collections and frequently cast in bronze in the late 19th century, Falguière’s female figures rank among the most iconic models of French sculpture from the Belle Époque.
