AMPHORA - Lot 134
AMPHORA Large polychrome ceramic vase accented with gold, decorated with two cherubs holding a garland of roses. Marked on the reverse “Imperial Amphora-Turn” beneath a crown and numbered “20101”. Height: 51.5 cm. Minor restoration. Note: Founded in Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia, the Amphora factory was among the most important producers of art ceramics during the Art Nouveau period. Awarded at numerous international exhibitions in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it is distinguished by the quality of its polychrome glazes, its gold highlights, and the richness of its sculpted decorations. The designs, adorned with figures, cherubs, and floral compositions, reflect the influence of Austro-Hungarian Jugendstil and the decorative tastes of the Belle Époque. Amphora ceramics remain among the most sought-after pieces from Bohemian art manufacturers today.
