CHRISTOFLE - Orly Model by Léo SABATTINI (1925–2016) - Lot 151
CHRISTOFLE - Orly Model by Léo SABATTINI (1925–2016)
Silver-plated cutlery set contained in its wooden box, comprising:
- Twelve teaspoons in plastic sleeves (length: 13.5 cm);
- Twelve table spoons in plastic sleeves (length: 19 cm);
- Twelve table forks in plastic sleeves (length: 19 cm);
- Twelve table knives in plastic sleeves (length: 22 cm; one without a plastic sleeve, one with a torn plastic sleeve)
Note: Designed by Lino Sabattini (1925–2016), one of the leading Italian designers of the postwar era, the Orly model reflects the convergence of French silversmithing and contemporary industrial design in the 1970s. A former collaborator of Gio Ponti and a leading figure at Sabattini Argenteria, he developed a minimalist aesthetic inspired by Italian modernism. With its understated and functional lines, Orly marks a break from the historically ornate designs that had built the reputation of French silverware. Today, this collection remains one of the most representative examples of tableware design from the post-war economic boom.
