Note: Joos de Momper II (1564–1635) ranks among the great landscape painters of the Flemish school of Antwerp in the early 17th century. A specialist in vast landscapes animated by figures and hunting scenes, he contributed to the rise of landscape painting as an independent genre alongside Jan Brueghel the Elder, with whom he collaborated on several occasions. His compositions, characterized by their layered perspectives and distant horizons, were highly popular among European collectors. The works from his studio and those of his followers attest to the lasting influence he exerted on 17th-century Flemish painting.
