GOYARD - Lot 267
GOYARD A rare wooden watch trunk lined with Goyardine-coated canvas. The interior is lined with brown velvet and features three display levels, each capable of holding 16 timepieces, for a total of 48. Lock marked "Goyard Ainé." On the side, a brass plaque inscribed “Malles Goyard / 233 rue Saint Honoré Paris Monte-Carlo Biarritz Bordeaux.” (Signs of wear, minor imperfections, initials crossed out, handle detached but present, lock cylinder and key missing) 31 x 45.5 x 40 cm Note: Founded in 1853, Goyard is one of France’s oldest manufacturers of luxury trunks. Its iconic “Goyardine” canvas, introduced in 1892 and recognizable by its herringbone pattern forming a subtle Y-shaped monogram, has become one of the most sought-after signatures in luxury leather goods. Trunks specially designed for watch collectors remain particularly rare and bear witness to the evolution of luxury travel in the 20th century. The plaque listing the house’s historic addresses—233 rue Saint-Honoré in Paris, Monte Carlo, Biarritz, and Bordeaux—is a valuable testament to Goyard’s presence among a wealthy international clientele, spanning seaside resorts, aristocratic vacation spots, and the Principality of Monaco.
