AUCTION IN SAINT PAUL ON SATURDAY, JUNE 20: CLASSICAL ARTS

Asian art will open this selection with two important 18th-century Tibetan thangkas. Painted in tempera on canvas, these religious panels present a composition centered on Kurukulla, a Tantric deity associated with love, attraction, and spiritual transformation. Testaments to the refinement of Tibetan sacred art, they are each estimated at between €3,000 and €5,000.

Consumers of decorative arts will also have the opportunity to discover a remarkable Art Deco silver flatware set made by the German firm Rostfrei Solingen. With its substantial size and weight approaching ten kilograms, this piece is particularly spectacular, estimated at between €12,000 and €15,000.

Old Master paintings will be represented by Shipping of Malta, a seascape attributed to the British painter Robert Cleveley (1747-1809). A specialist in naval scenes and harbor landscapes, the artist offers here an evocation of the Mediterranean through the eyes of 18th-century English painters. This work is offered with an estimate of €3,000 to €6,000.

Sculpture will be among the sale's main attractions, with an elegant white marble bust inspired by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux's famous Genius of the Dance. This interpretation of one of the Second Empire sculptor's masterpieces is expected to fetch €5,000 to €7,000. Finally, a bronze by Aimé-Jules Dalou will particularly capture the attention of collectors. Entitled "The Kiss," this model was produced by the Hébrard foundry starting in 1902.

Representative of the sculptor's talent for conveying emotions and the intimacy of figures, it is one of the major works in this sale, with an estimate of between €8,000 and €12,000. Through this collection, which blends French sculpture, maritime painting, decorative arts, and Tibetan sacred art, this sale offers an eclectic journey through several centuries of creation and craftsmanship.
