SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31: CLASSIC ART AUCTION
On Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 2 PM, Saint Paul Auction will hold its Classic Art Auction in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, featuring over 200 lots of Old Master and modern paintings, sculptures, antique furniture, decorative arts, silverware and Asian art. The catalogue brings together works of art and collectibles from various periods, primarily dating from the 17th to the 20th century.
Among the paintings offered is an oil on canvas by Walt Kuhn (1877–1949), entitled Carmen Amaya and dated 1933. The American painter, who helped organise the landmark Armory Show in New York in 1913, is particularly known for his portraits of dancers and performers. This depiction of the celebrated Spanish flamenco dancer carries an estimate of €10,000–15,000.
Landscape painting will also be represented by two works by Georgy Zakharovich Bashinzhagyan (1857–1925), an Armenian artist known for his views of the Caucasus and his atmospheric landscapes. An Autumn Landscape is estimated at €3,000–5,000, while a second landscape will be offered with an estimate of €2,000–3,000.
The Old Master Paintings section will feature a selection of European works from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, including a battle scene from the Neapolitan School, a marine painting attributed to Robert Cleveley (1747–1809), and a view of Venice by Félix Ziem (1821–1911) depicting Sant'Elena. Religious compositions, portraits and landscapes will complete this selection.
Collectors of antique sculpture will find a marble bust after Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux (1827–1875), depicting The Genius of Dance, estimated at €2,500–3,000. Several bronze sculptures, alabaster figures and decorative objects will also be offered.
The Asian Art section will include a selection of bronzes, sculptures and religious objects, primarily from China and Tibet. Highlights include a Sino-Tibetan bronze figure of Vajradhara, estimated at €1,500–2,000, and an 18th-century Tibetan thangka, estimated at €1,000–1,500. Ceramics and other Asian works of art will also feature in the catalogue.
Antique silverware will be represented by several collections of solid silver flatware and cutlery, including an Art Deco-style canteen by Rostfrei Solingen, estimated at €7,000–8,000. Further sets of silver cutlery and various pieces of silverware will complete this section devoted to the decorative and table arts.
The auction will also offer a selection of glassware and decorative arts, including pieces by Daum Nancy, crystal creations by Baccarat, and a variety of antique and modern glass objects.
Antique furniture and decorative objects will be represented by several pieces of furniture and collectibles, including a five-drawer wooden cabinet, estimated at €5,000–7,000. Two Italian micromosaics depicting views of Rome, archaeological objects, antique instruments and a small selection of wines will complete the catalogue.
All lots are illustrated in the online auction catalogue, available for viewing ahead of the sale. The public preview will give visitors the opportunity to examine the paintings, sculptures, furniture and decorative objects before bidding.
