Portico clock in black marble with chased and gilded bronze - Lot 65
Portico clock in black marble with chased and gilded bronze ornamentation. White enamelled circular dial with Roman and Arabic numerals in black, signed Thonifsen in Paris, framed by two putti, surmounted by a lion's head and adorned with an imperial eagle. The columns are underlined by curved flutes. The base adorned with a "Amitié et Reconnaissance" plaque, probably added later.
First half of the 19th century.
(minor knocks, dial glass missing, bronzes to be re-attached, mechanism not verified).
Height: 46.6 cm
Provenance: descendants of General Changarnier (1793-1877). The clock is said to have been presented to the general by Emperor Napoleon III, hence the "Amitié et Reconnaissance" plaque.
